FAQ
How do you choose when to put technology into the lesson plan?
Technology should come last in the planning process. Backward design tells us to figure out what results you want, then find acceptable evidence before planning activities and tools. If you focus on your goal first you can avoid letting technology do all of the work, that way the tech tools can support the outcome and not drive it (plan the learning experience.
How can I make sure that technology in the classroom is more than just fun activities?
The ISTE standard stresses on making authentic activities. They focus more on the big ideas. Ask yourself, Does this tool help students to apply their knowledge or authentically demonstrate learning (where's the technology?).
How can assessments come into play when using technology?
By using backward design you can plan your assessments before your assignments. This makes it so that you know what is being taught so that it also shows up on the assessment. An example of this would be using something like google forms for some assessments and then multimedia assignments for other assessments. Mainly you want to focus on providing multiple ways for students to show that they understand.
