Module 3 Blog

This blog post is going to be a reflection. To start, when I get to my first year of teaching an important lesson I would like to remember from this module is technology in the classroom isn’t really a choice (technology in the classroom as a responsibility video). Students now have grown up with technology, but that does not mean that they know how to use it appropriately. They need a teacher to guide them to gain the skills they need to be a part of the digital world. Teaching students how to be responsible online is now a major part of being a teacher.

One thing I want to use in my classroom is putting technology into daily instruction, and not just using it as an add on. An example of this would be, if I were to ask students to do some research I can teach them how to properly cite their sources (creative commons).

I also want to incorporate blended learning. That way I am not just adding technology to the classroom but combining the in person and digital tools so that students can learn to be flexible.

In all I want to prepare students to be successful in this digital world, that way students can use technology in a beneficial way.

FAQ How do you choose when to put technology into the lesson plan? Technology should come last in the planning process. Backward design tells us to figure out what results you want, then find acceptable evidence before planning activities and tools. If you focus on your goal first you can avoid letting technology do all of the work, that way the tech tools can support the outcome and not drive it (plan the learning experience. How can I make sure that technology in the classroom is more than just fun activities? The ISTE standard stresses on making authentic activities. They focus more on the big ideas. Ask yourself, Does this tool help students to apply their knowledge or authentically demonstrate learning (where's the technology?). How can assessments come into play when using technology? By using backward design you can plan your assessments before your assignments. This makes it so that you know what is being taught so that it also shows up on the assessment. An example of thi...

Based off of the information given in module 1 I would say that these are the 3 main points:  Technology has changed education: since technology has been introduced to education, whether it be through laptops, remote learning, flipped learning, or just having 1:1 technology in the classroom; there is no way that the way kids are learning can stay the same. (Innovations in Schools section, Kevin Bushweller) Having access to technology is not enough, it needs to be used effectively: Not every one has access to technology or the way different schools use their technology. There are different things in place to help integrate technology with education, like SAMR and TPACK. (Section about the digital divide; Technology for Learning) Teachers are key in using technology in the classroom: Teacher readiness to use technology is how classrooms can effectively use technology in the classroom. (The Impact of The Instructor, Med Kharbach) I would say that my personal take away from this ...
